Project Overview

King George VI Structure is an all-steel double 25m bascule span lift bridge. The project consisted of the following major work:

Structural Repairs: 

  • Structural steel replacement to bascule spans
  • Concrete repairs to trunnion decks and sidewalks
  • Sidewalk wearing surface
  • Structural steel coating

Mechanical Repairs:

  • Complete high-speed span drive replacement
  • Low-speed span drive rehabilitation
  • Span lock actuator replacement
  • Span balancing and commissioning

Electrical Repairs:

  • Replace control console
  • Replace leaf drive VFDs
  • Install new programmable logic controller system and graphical message display
  • Install new traffic gates
