Project Overview

Walpole is a unique swing bridge that provides the only land-based access to Walpole island. Constructed in 1968, the bridge carries two lanes of traffic and two sidewalks over the Chenal Ecarte (Snye) River, a navigable waterway connecting Lake Huron to Lake Simcoe. The multi-faceted project includes rehabilitation on the swing span and has many components including mechanical work, electrical work, jacking repair and replacement of substructure and concrete deck rehabilitation. During this project, LCI has the unique opportunity to work cohesively on the bridge's gears, motors, liners, guards and installing an entirely new electrical system.
